How to Succeed at Your New Years Resolutions

The title explains my intent of this post.  I want you to succeed at your New Years Resolutions.

I agree with Anthony Iannarino, that most resolutions fail. There are many reasons as to why resolutions fail. For example, one reason being that they don’t involve real change, or that the change is so drastic that it often leads to a recoil effect. Why not lose weight on April 18th vs. January 2nd?  If you know you need to be healthy and lose weight, then do it.  There is nothing special about the date of January 1st, except it is a logical point to start something.  But unless you are launching a business and want a clean fiscal year, it doesn’t really matter.

When I started my path for health I did it on February 2nd. I just decided I would take a walk. That led me to wanting to do it daily, which started me down a path to health and fitness.  I made the decision to start somewhere and I started small.

This is not to say you should not set goals and work towards them.  You should, everyone should, and do it today.

So how can you succeed at your resolutions/goals?  Start with this goal - be persistent and diligent. Every day.  Do what you say you are going to do each day.  Take a walk/run regardless of the weather.  Show up for those meetings.  Don’t waste your money on stuff you can’t afford and save what you said you would. Simply, just do what you say you will. Show up each day, do what you say, and you will succeed at making progress in your goals. When you hit roadblocks, finds ways to pivot to figure it out and then continue moving forward.

I did not take that walk to start to run races. I took that walk because I decided I wanted to work on my health and fitness.  It seemed like a better idea than grabbing a cigarette when I needed a break from my sales job.  And I did it every day, day after day, sick or healthy.  I showed up.
